On Being Too Much

Most high achievers were told they were too much long before they became successful. Here's what nobody mentions: the conditioning doesn't stop when you start winning. It just gets more sophisticated - and starts sounding a lot like wisdom.

AKA The Fraternal Twin of Not Enough

While most of humanity runs a program of not being enough in the background of their mind, there are those of us with a different program entirely.

The program of being too much.

And here's the thing that doesn't get talked about enough at this level:

That program doesn't go away when you become successful.

It evolves.

It gets smarter. More polished. More convincing.

At 7 years old, it sounds like someone else's voice.

At 47, running a 7-figure business, it sounds like yours.

It starts sounding like strategy. Like self-awareness. Like professionalism. Like "read the room."

And the devastating irony? The very thing they called "too much" when you were young - the intensity, the ambition, the magnitude of your energy - is the exact thing that built everything you have.

But success, it turns out, can become its own reason to contain it further.

Have you ever been told:

"You're too _____ ?"

Oh, my friend, I can wholeheartedly relate.

Time and again that message echoed:

"You're too much."

It doesn't matter where those words come from.

A family member.

A teacher.

A colleague.

A friend.

Even a stranger.

The feeling it evokes is downright disheartening.

I still vividly recall a moment from my childhood.

I was singing my heart out to a song that made me feel alive and ecstatic.

(It may or may not have been a Tina Turner song...)

But it didn't sit well with my best friend at the time.

I was deemed, "too much."

(And yes I can sing in tune - in case you're wondering, haha!)

Anyway, I was just seven years old and in that instant I felt a piece of my heart break.

At that young, innocent age, I believed her.

I thought something must be wrong with me for her to notice and comment.

Little did I know I was unintentionally triggering her insecurities, leading her to seek control over me so I wouldn't make her look bad.

Looking back, I recognize how I then began to shrink my energy.

A sneaky, subtle shift, noticeable only to me, yet immensely impactful.

Shrinking physically pained me.

(If you're familiar with HD, you can imagine how hard it is for a Manifestor to curb BIG, impactful energy.)

That moment marked the start of a long journey of contracting my essence in an attempt to make others feel more comfortable around me.

It manifested in school, relationships, and in business.

Spanning decades and punctuated by the recurring refrain of "too much."

..."You're too smart" ..."You're too spiritual" ..."You're too intense" ..."You're too bossy" ..."You're too nice" ..."You're too pretty" ..."You're too tom-boyish" ..."You're too weird" ..."You're too talented" ..."You're too loud" ..."You're too woo" ..."You're too shy" ..."You're too opinionated" ..."You're too humble" ..."You're too ambitious" ..."You're too young" ..."You're too old" ..."You're too competitive"

And my personal favorite:

"You're too happy... you're so annoying!"

Ahh. Ok.

(And that ain't even half of what I've heard I'm too much about!)

Of course I don't let this affect me now.

But look at that list again.

Look how many things are contradictory.

Total and utter nonsense.

Here's what persistent conditioning does over time - especially to someone as capable as you.

You stop waiting for someone else to say it.

You start saying it first.

Before the meeting, you calibrate. Tone it down a little. Make sure you don't come across as too much.

Before the pitch, you pull back the certainty in your voice. Don't want to seem too intense.

Before the conversation where you know you need to say the hard thing, you soften it. Pre-edit the truth. Because the last thing you want is to be too direct.

That's not professionalism.

That's the seven-year-old's survival strategy running in a corner office.

And here is the real cost - the one that doesn't show up in your numbers but shows up in everything else:

When you've been shrinking a Manifestor-level energy for long enough, the leak becomes invisible. You don't even feel yourself doing it anymore. The container feels normal. The edges of it don't chafe like they used to.

Until the results stop reflecting the fullness of what you're actually capable of.

That's when the plateau appears.

Not because you ran out of strategy.

Because you've been running at a fraction of your actual power.

Here's the truth about your "too much."

You were not designed to shrink your light.

Let alone hide it under a bushel.

It goes against your divine essence.

Your purpose isn't to blend in. You're here to stand out and be precisely, unapologetically you.

The things you were called too much for - the intensity, the ambition, the directness, the power of your presence - those aren't bugs.

They are the Ra-Heru frequency. The code of fearless, expansive leadership.

Encoded in you before you were old enough to be told it was a problem.

When you shrink that to fit someone else's comfort zone - whether that someone else is a stranger from your past or the polished professional version of you that learned to manage perceptions - you are leaving your most potent leadership capacity on the table.

Every single time.

So let me say this directly, because that's how I roll:

Recognize that you've outgrown the version of yourself that was managing for other people's comfort.

You're not designed to fit inside anyone's box of limitations or projections.

Not the ones from childhood.

Not the ones the industry taught you.

Not the ones that sound like professionalism.

If your authenticity unsettles others - good.

If your magnitude challenges people who prefer predictable - that's information.

If your full expression makes certain rooms uncomfortable - those are the wrong rooms.

Surround yourself with those who understand that your brilliance only magnifies theirs.

Seek your fearless tribe - the ones who celebrate your full frequency and push you to go all in.

Align yourself with allies who will challenge you to keep

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be "too much" as a leader?

Being told you're "too much" is one of the most common experiences among high-achieving leaders - particularly those with big energy, strong presence, and an intensity that others find confronting. At its root, "too much" is a conditioning message received early in life that causes gifted people to shrink, self-censor, and contain their most powerful qualities in an attempt to make others comfortable. For leaders, this conditioning rarely disappears when success arrives. It evolves - becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect, disguising itself as professionalism, strategic restraint, or reading the room.

Why do high achievers still feel like they're too much even after becoming successful?

Because success doesn't dissolve the original program - it just changes its costume. A multi 6-figure or 7-figure leader who was told they were "too much" at age seven has usually internalized that message so completely that they now run it themselves, pre-emptively. Instead of waiting for someone else to say "dial it back," they do it before meetings, before pitches, before difficult conversations. The result is a leader operating at a fraction of their actual power - not because they lack capability, but because they've been quietly braking on it for decades. This is what's called a Power Distortion - and it has a direct impact on results, fulfillment, and the ceiling of what's possible.

Is being too intense or too ambitious a problem in leadership?

No. Intensity, ambition, and a magnitude of presence are not leadership liabilities - they are leadership assets when channeled from the right design. In Human Design terms, a Manifestor's big initiating energy, a Projector's penetrating insight, or an MG's fast-moving multi-passionate drive can all look "too much" to people operating from a different energetic architecture. The problem isn't the quality itself. The problem is running those qualities through a system distorted by years of being told they were inappropriate. When the distortion is cleared, what was labeled "too much" becomes precisely the thing that makes the leader extraordinary.

What is a Power Distortion and how does it affect business success?

A Power Distortion is a specific type of Power Program - an energetic corruption in your Source Code that creates a gap between who you are at the level of your soul's design and who you've learned to be in order to operate in the world. For leaders who were told they were "too much" as children, the Power Distortion often shows up as a persistent self-editing mechanism that runs below conscious awareness - containing the very qualities that would otherwise generate their most significant results. It affects business success by creating an invisible ceiling: the leader can achieve a great deal while running the distortion, but the cost is disproportionately high and the ceiling is firmly in place until the distortion is addressed at the root.

How do I stop shrinking my energy in business and leadership?

The first step is recognizing that the shrinking is a program, not a personality trait. It was learned - which means it can be unlearned. For most high achievers, awareness alone isn't enough because the program runs at an energetic level beneath conscious intention. Understanding your specific design through Human Design and your Egyptian archetypal frequency gives you a clear picture of what your energy is actually built to do - which makes the gap between your full expression and your current output visible and undeniable. From there, dissolving the Power Distortion at the root - rather than managing it at the surface - is what creates lasting change. The Celestial Codex™ is specifically designed for this work.
